Ski, Snowboard

For cross-country skiing, which is very popular in Russia, any park is available. Parks are numerous in Moscow - Izmailovsky, Sokolniki, Timiryazevski, Pokrovskoe-Streshnevo and so on (just look at the map of the city).

There are several places for mountain skiing or snowboarding in Moscow. All of them are not far from metro, which is convenient.

"Moscow Alps" base is located at about 5 - 10 minutes from Nagornaya metro station. The slopes' length is 200-350 m (one is for children); the level difference is 55 m. There are 3 elevators, "snow guns", sports school, ski lessons, ski rental and repair, ice-climbing construction, fitness center, mountain ski equipment shop, parking places, cafe, bar, a restaurant and change rooms.

There is a good place on Vorobievy gory at University metro, 5 min from the back entrance of the Moscow state University main building, where the observation deck is. There are 4 elevators, an artificial track in summer, "Knight Club" restaurant, changing rooms, and a children's sports school.

In Krylatskoe (Molodejnaya or Krylatskoe metro stations) the slopes' length is 150-250 m; the level difference is 40-50 m. There are 9 elevators, "snow guns" and renting.

There are also Zvezdochka base at m. Orehovo and another one on m. Belyaevo or Kalujskaya, but they are not so popular.

From the mountain skiing centers around Moscow Volen Sport Park has the most developed infrastructure. It's 60 km from the city - 1h20m by car or by a local train. The park has 6 slopes with elevators up to 400 m long. Equipment rental (about $13 for the first 2 hours, then $7 an hour) is available. There are Guest Houses ($70 a night per person), a restaurant, cafe and an equipment store. Car parking is $1, elevators - $2 for 10 lifts on weekdays and $7 on weekends. Entrance is free. Volen is located in Yahroma town. You can there by Dmitrovskoe shosse (north of Moscow) or by train from Savelovsky vokzal to Yahroma station (Dmitrov direction, depart every 20-30 min). From the station you'll have to take a bus or a car. The last train to Moscow departs at 23.00, and you will have to leave the park in advance to allow time to catch a car. Telephone: 578-35-02.

Notes on the margin
There we limelight some divisions of the site to capture your attention to the information, which might be interesting or useful for you.
»  Have you any concern to teaching? In the Teaching section there is some information for practical usage (in life, not in lessons!) for those who teach in Russia. You don't teach? Why don't you try? What if that's you destiny?!
»  In the Restaurant section you can find not only some interesting restaurants descriptions with the addresses but even the descriptions of some dishes! Also you can get to a bigger list of Moscow restaurants with addresses and short annotations. You won't stay hungry in Moscow, indeed.
»  Russian Police... something is not to be trifled with. Read and don't fear. Anyway, take care!
